VCU Staff Senate is an organization of engaged and enthusiastic staff and team members from across the university’s diverse community. We are committed to taking our place alongside faculty, administrators and students to enhance our university culture.
Our main goals:
- To be a representative body for staff; encourages staff to serve on university committees
- To provide a forum for the exchange of university information
- To provide referrals for staff questions or concerns; and
- To advocate for staff issues across the university including, but not limited to, professional development, shared university governance, and workplaces that foster a spirit of respect, dignity, unity and collaboration.
Our interests and goals are as diverse as our membership. Senators serve on committees across both campuses with representatives from the student body, faculty and administration. Senators work towards achieving the goals and initiatives outlined the university’s strategic plan, Quest for Distinction.
As part of the Staff Senate commitment, an annual professional development conference was created especially for staff. This annual conference is also intended to complement the Great Place Initiative and Star Service program. In line with Quest goals, Staff Senate successfully advocated for the addition of a service component to staff work profiles to promote staff leadership opportunities in the University community. We are open to new ideas and initiatives, which leads to engaged and robust discussion in our meetings. In the spirit of openness and inclusion, our general meetings are open to all VCU staff members and we encourage attendance and participation.
As a group, we are constantly evolving to meet the needs of a growing and changing University community. We expect the best from one another and our values are deeply rooted in those of the entire VCU community: integrity, respect, accountability, diversity, collaboration and a commitment to service excellence.
